I'd never heard of Boards of Canada until commenter JacobyDave recommended it in our first Work Sounds post, but after a quick skim through their first album, Music Has The Right To Children, I'd describe them as a ambient electronica; great for flicking on as background music and forgetting about it.
Although BoC gets slightly more bombastic than the basically one-step-up-from-silence Music For Airports, it rarely hits crazy enough heights to distract you—or I guess me—from work. You probably won't/can't jam out to them, but it gets the job done.
